Tags
Tags are a powerful part of Workout Writer, and they come in two main types:
- Effort Tags
- Labels
You create some basic tags when you first open the app, but you can easily edit these within the app, adding more if necessary, changing the default titles, or editing the paces.
Tags can either be "Work" or "Rest". Using a "Work" tag e.g. "Tempo" will mark a workout step as work. Using a "Rest" tag e.g. "Easy" will mark a workout step as rest. When you're doing your workout, your watch uses this information to display your current workout step. "Work" is the default, so it is generally assumed that a workout step is work unless you use a rest tag (whether a label or effort tag).
Effort Tags
Effort tags are a way of referring to a particular type of effort without having to explicitly enter a pace or power. For example, just type "Easy", and Workout Writer will use your "Easy" tag when constructing the workout plan. Over time, if your Easy pace changes, just edit the pace in the tag, and when you next schedule the workout on your watch, it will automatically use the new Easy pace.
This is also powerful when sharing workouts with other people. Your Easy pace might not be the same as the people you're sharing your workout with, but if you've used tags - e.g. entering "Easy" instead of entering "5:50/km" - then when they receive your workout, the app will use their paces instead of yours.
Labels
The difference between Effort Tags and Labels is that Labels do not have any particular effort associated with them. However, like Effort Tags, Labels can either be "Work" or "Rest".
The Labels for a workout step will be shown on your watch when you are doing the workout, so you can use them for anything that you might want to see at that time. You might, for example, use labels like "Rest" or "Off", when you want to tell Workout Writer that a step should be rest, but where you don't want to specify a particular effort.
